Anytime Activities at the Library

Fondulac District Library offers a variety of activities for children of all ages whenever they visit the library. The Youth Services Department provides a new activity every month, such as scavenger hunts and simple crafts.

Additionally, a wide selection of board and card games are available for kids, including, but not limited to:

  • Battleship

  • Dr. Seuss Matching
  • Enchanted Forest
  • I Spy Preschool Game
  • Monopoly Jr.

The Youth Services Department also features a dedicated play area with a train table, puppet theater, Lego

Mobile Printing Now Available

INFORMATION IN THIS ARTICLE MAY BE OUTDATED. PLEASE VISIT THE SERVICES MENU DROP DOWN FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION ABOUT PRINTING SERVICES AT THE LIBRARY. 

Patrons can utilize the library’s mobile printing service to print remotely from smartphones, tablets, and computers and pick up their printouts at the library. There are three ways to utilize the library’s mobile printing service:

Visit a print release station at the library to retrieve your mobile print job. Print jobs will be available for 24 hours once they are submitted. If you need assistance, please see a library staff member.

Printing cost:

  • 10 cents each for black and white printouts (20 cents for double sided)
  • 25 cents each for color printouts (50 cents for double sided)

East Peoria Chamber of Commerce Announces GED Preparation Class

The East Peoria Chamber of Commerce announces a GED Preparation class to be offered in East Peoria January 18-May 10, 2017.  This class is offered through collaboration among the East Peoria Chamber, the Fondulac District Library, and the Peoria Park District ELITE Program.

Individuals who wish to participate in the program must qualify through a Test of Basic Adult Education (TABE) at a 7th grade reading level or above.  Individuals must register and test in-person between 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM on Wednesday, January 4 or Wednesday, January 11, 2017.

Registration, testing, and the classes will be held in the East Peoria Civic Plaza adjacent to the Fondulac District Library and City Hall in East Peoria.  Individuals must attend one registration session and all class sessions to get the most out of the class.

Financial support provided for individuals taking this class will cover all of the costs of instruction, supplies, materials, practice tests, and certification tests.  Spaces are limited to qualified individuals and will be filled on a first-come, first-registered basis.

Winter Newsletter Available

The latest issue of Community Connection, Fondulac District Library’s quarterly newsletter, is now available! It is mailed to residences within the library district and also is available for download and printing from our website. Printed copies can also be picked up at the library.

1KB4K is an early literacy program designed to promote reading to babies, infants, and toddlers with the goal of having 1,000 books read before Kindergarten.

Getting Started:

  • Register in the Youth Services Department to receive a progress chart to track the first 100 books read to the child.
  • Once the chart is complete, return it to the library for a free book and the next progress chart.
  • A certificate of achievement, book, and book bag will be awarded when the goal of reading 1000 books is met!

Library Hosts Local Author Fair

author-fairFondulac District Library hosts its first ever Author Fair on January 21, 2017, at 1 p.m. Local authors will discuss their books, answer questions, and sell and sign copies of their books.

Paranormal author Sylvia Shults will present a keynote address, and horror author Joe Chianakas will answer questions about the publication process. Attendees are invited to enjoy an author meet and greet as well as dramatic readings from selected authors. Books may be purchased at the event, and a portion of all sales will be donated to the Friends of Fondulac District Library. There will also be prize drawings.

The library encourages local authors to submit an application to promote, sell, and sign copies of their work at the event. Applications are available here or at the library. The deadline to apply is December 27.

Interlibrary Loan Service

Fondulac District Library offers an Interlibrary Loan service to its cardholders. This service allows patrons to request items from beyond central Illinois and outside of the RSACat catalog. Interlibrary Loan requests may be placed in person at the library, by phone at (309) 699-3917, or online by using the Interlibrary Loan Request Form.

Book Clubs at the Library

Fondulac District Library is currently offering two book clubs for adult readers.

The “Out of the Box Book Club” takes place on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. at locations throughout East Peoria.

The “Adult Book Club” meets on the 3rd Monday of every month at 1:30 p.m. in the library’s conference room.
