Fondulac District Library and Digital Outfitters have partnered to organize Operation Stitch-a-Stocking, a project which provides free custom embroidered holiday stockings to those affected by the tornadoes and storms that struck central Illinois in November. Operation Stitch-a-Stocking sponsors donated more than 1,000 stockings for the local project. Sponsors supporting the project include Pekin Insurance, Target (East Peoria), and Unland Companies.
Individuals or families from central Illinois affected by the storm may visit Fondulac District Library in East Peoria from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, or Thursday, December 12, to select the style of stocking they would like and to provide the information needed for the embroidery. There is no charge for the stockings or embroidery service to those recovering from the recent disasters.
Area residents unaffected by the tornado also are welcome to participate in Operation Stitch-a-Stocking. Anyone may bring in stockings for custom embroidery in exchange for a donation to the Hometown Community Bank’s tornado relief funds. A minimum donation of $5 per stocking is requested.
Completed embroidered stockings will be available for pick up at the library from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17.
“We are looking forward to sharing this project with many families and hope it brings joy, hope, and the holiday spirit to the residents of central Illinois,” said Ivan Coziahr, Fondulac District Library board member and co-founder of Digital Outfitters.
