Fondulac District Library offers gaming for all ages. Benefits of providing gaming in the library include encouraging social interaction, skill development, and entertainment for the individuals who play them. Studies show that games aid perception, cognition, decision-making, and facilitate teamwork.
In-Library Gaming
A variety of new and classic board games are available for in-library play by children, teens, adults, and families.
The library also offers children and young adults in-library use of video gaming systems. The Youth Services Department has Nintendo Switch and Minecraft accounts. Nintendo Switch, Minecraft accounts, and Steam games are available upstairs in the Teen Space.
Video gaming systems in the children’s department are for children age 13 and under and adults who accompany them. Gaming systems in Teen Space are for teens age 13 through 19 and adults who accompany them.
Board games, card games, and puzzles are available for all ages.
All games and game accessories must be checked out from a staff member. To check out games, a patron must present a valid library card or a picture ID. Patrons may check out two games at a time. No games or extra accessories from home or outside the library may be used at the library in conjunction with library-owned games, systems, and accessories. Please ask at the library for more information on our gaming policies.
Grown-Up Game Nights
While the library’s board games are available for all ages at any time, the Switch and Steam Station are usually reserved for teens aged 13 through 19. Not on Grown-Up Game Nights, though! Gamers ages 20+ are invited to get their game on starting at 5 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month. Bring your library card or photo ID, and check in at the second floor Information Desk to get started!
Puzzles for Checkout
Jigsaw puzzles with 300+ pieces are available for checkout in the Adult Services Department. Puzzles may be checked out for one-week periods and can be renewed one time. Cardholders may have a maximum of two puzzles checked out at any time. Please note that puzzles must be returned to a library staff member, and a $5 fee will be charged if a puzzle is returned in the drop box.
Board Games for Checkout
Board games can be checked out for use outside of the library. Games for teens and adults can be checked out from the Adult Services Department, and games for children can be checked out from the Youth Services Department. A patron may check out up to 2 games at one time for a one-week period. Board games can be renewed once, and the borrower is responsible for returning the game with all of its pieces and accessories. Please note that board games must be returned to a library staff member, and a $5 fee will be charged if a game is returned in the drop box. Board games are removed from a library card once all of the pieces have been counted, however, the return date is the day the patron returned the item.
Yard Games for Checkout
Yard games are also now available to check out from the library. Croquet, Yard Dice, Block Buster, Bocce Ball, Kubb, Lawn Bowling, Ladder Toss, Ring Toss, and several others are available for cardholders to take home for one-week lending periods. Please note that yard games must be returned to a library staff member, and a $5 fee will be charged if a game is returned in the drop box.
