Fondulac District Library’s Adult Services Department provides free in-person notary public service at the library to the community. A notary public is almost always available whenever the library is open. PLEASE NOTE: notary services are currently limited. Please call the library at (309) 699-3917, ext. 2251,  in advance to confirm the availability of a notary public. Notary service is offered at the Information Desk on the second floor.

The purpose of notarization is to prevent fraud and forgery. A notary acts as an official and unbiased witness to the identity of persons who comes before the notary for a specific purpose. Learn more about notarization at https://www.illinoislegalaid.org/legal-information/what-notary.

  • Please do not sign your documents before you come to the library. Notaries are required to see you sign your documents.
  • Notaries will not notarize incomplete documents or documents with blank spaces.
  • Each person signing the document must be present for us to notarize that signature. If your document requires witnesses as well as your own signature and notarization, please bring with you a sufficient number of people willing to serve as your witnesses. Witnesses may not be solicited from patrons using the library or library staff.
  • A valid ID with your signature is required so that we can verify your identity. The ID must be issued by a state or federal government agency and must bear the photographic image of the individual’s face and signature. Examples of acceptable IDs issued by a state or federal government agency with both a photographic image and signature are a valid state driver’s license or ID card, a United States military ID, or valid passport.
  • Library notaries cannot notarize documents of conveyance for qualifying residential real property located in Cook County, government I-9 forms, nor can the library provide an Apostille.

E-Notary

The library does not offer e-notary services.
