The library offers guided group tours and visits to organizations and classrooms that introduce the areas and services of the library and educate visitors on the variety of materials, programs, and resources it provides. Library staff members are happy to work with group leaders to cover specific areas of interest.
Tour and visit services include:
- Guided visits to the Youth Services and/or Adult Services departments
- An introduction to library services and resources
- A walking tour of the library, including behind-the-scenes
Library tours typically take around 45 minutes to an hour and can be customized to meet the needs of the requesting organization or classroom with advance arrangement. Classroom tours are available for all students, from Pre-K to 12th grade. Tours and visits are popular with service clubs, business organizations, and senior living residents, as well.
- Tours are generally available weekdays during library operating hours and are scheduled to end no later than one hour before the library closes. Saturday tours may be available, but generally require at least one month's notice.
- Group size is limited to 30.
- The library requests one accompanying adult for every five children and one accompanying for every ten young adults. The library is unable to provide additional chaperones or supervision. Accompanying adults are expected to stay with their group at all times and to handle any conduct issues.
If you would like a tour, please contact the library with your request at least two weeks before the proposed tour date. This allows library staff time to check availability and prepare in order to fulfill your organization's needs. We attempt to honor all tour requests. However, due to the possible unavailability of staff during the requested time, we cannot guarantee every request. The likelihood of honoring your request is increased significantly if there are alternative dates and times.
The library requests cancellations at least 24 hours in advance.
