Fondulac District Library offers in-library and circulating gaming collections. Benefits of offering gaming in the library include, but are not limited to, encouraging social interaction and educating and entertaining the individuals who participate in them. Studies display that games aid perception, cognition, and decision making, as well as encourage team work. Fondulac District Library also utilizes gaming to expose patrons to the variety of services that the library offers.
Patrons participating in the library gaming are encouraged to read the Gaming Policy to ensure proper and safe use of the games and gaming systems. Failure to follow these policies will result in loss of gaming privileges.
IN-LIBRARY GAME COLLECTION
The Library offers a variety of board and video games for in-library play by children, teens, adults, and families.
All games and game accessories must be checked out from a staff member. Patrons may check out one game at a time for use in the library. No games or extra accessories from home or outside the library may be used at the library in conjunction with library-owned games, systems, and accessories. A patron must present a valid library card or a picture ID in order to check out games and accessories. The patron’s card/id will be returned when the equipment is returned.
Any damage or loss that occur to the Library’s facilities, property, and gaming equipment will be the responsibility of the patron checking out the materials.
Non-circulating, library-owned games and accessories are not allowed to be taken from the library.
All games must be ended and equipment returned to the service desk 30 minutes before the library closes.
Patrons are required to treat all library property gently, to respect others, and to keep the game volume and noise levels low. Gaming patrons must adhere to all patron behavior policies, including the prohibition of inappropriate language and actions. Patrons not adhering to policies will lose gaming privileges at the discretion of the staff.
Staff has the discretion to reserve and use the library games and equipment for special programming.
Fondulac District Library offers children and young adults in-library use of video gaming systems.
Gaming systems in the children’s department are for children age 13 and under and adults who accompany them.
Gaming systems in the teen area are for children age 14 through 19 and adults who accompany them.
Patrons are allowed play of one of the teen area systems for 1 hour. If no patrons are waiting to use the system, they may play for a longer period.
Patrons are allowed play of one of the children’s department systems for a half hour. If no patrons are waiting to use the system, they may play for a longer period.
The library lends up to two game controllers for each system. Two patrons may play at a time unless the game is a party game or allows individuals to share the controllers.
Video game play is not saved for future play.
CIRCULATING GAME COLLECTION
Not all games available for in-library play are available for circulation.
The Library of Things collection also is subject to the library’s Circulation and Fees policy, Library Materials Lending Limits, Fee Schedule, Library of Things policy, and other applicable library policies.
