Youth Spaces Policy

Last Updated Date

Fondulac District Library is committed to providing inviting and safe spaces for children and teenage patrons to engage in individual and group activities. The social nature and unique characteristics of these age groups require separate spaces designed for their needs. The Library has designated specific areas within the building to provide appropriate spaces for these particular age groups.

Patrons of all ages are welcome to browse and check out materials from the collections located in these spaces. However, patrons whose age falls outside the designated ages for the specific youth space should limit their visit to that space to the browsing of the collection and the selection of materials and should then use other areas of the Library, as appropriate. Extended browsing in youth spaces by unaccompanied adults is not encouraged, and Library staff may request patrons to move out of that space at their discretion.

Teens and/or adults with special needs more appropriate to youth spaces may use these spaces at the discretion of the Library staff.

The Library reserves the right to limit and/or expand access to and utilize youth spaces for scheduled programs, events, and activities.

Youth Services Area

The Youth Services area of the Library, including its seating, tables, computers, gaming systems, and other equipment, is reserved for children from birth through age thirteen (13) and their accompanying parent, legal guardian, teacher, custodian, or responsible caregiver.

Teen Space

The Library’s Teen Space, including its seating, tables, gaming systems, and other equipment, are reserved for the use of teenagers age 14 through 19. Library patrons whose age falls outside this range may use the Teen Space seating, tables, and gaming systems only if they are accompanied by a patron age 14 through 19 who also is actively using the Teen Space.
